Dear Christian, you're NOT the Author!
Written by Zachary McCann
Later, as Jesus left the town, he saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at his tax collector’s booth. “Follow me and be my disciple,” Jesus said to him. So Levi got up, left everything, and followed him. Later, Levi held a banquet in his home with Jesus as the guest of honor. Many of Levi’s fellow tax collectors and other guests also ate with them. But the Pharisees and their teachers of religious law complained bitterly to Jesus’ disciples, “Why do you eat and drink with such scum?” Jesus answered them, “Healthy people don’t need a doctor—sick people do. I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners and need to repent.” Luke 5:27-31
Dear Christian, it is not your job to be the “morality police!” If you really believe in Jesus then you should know that He is the only one who can change some ones heart. Jesus is the Author so stop trying to write the pages! As a Christian you are called to dine with sinners and lovingly point them to a redeeming savior.
The problem today with so many christian's is we are so quick to point out the faults in the sinner, and we fail to take the time to point them to the doctor (Jesus). This is the reason so many lost people continue to stay lost. The world is sick of your badgering hell fire and brimstone tactics! The truth is as Christ followers we hold the antidote to the worlds disease but we keep replacing the vials with stagnate morality and hateful tactics. So lets get something strait. There is a disease lurking in every human heart and the cure will NEVER be found through your incessant finger pointing.
Do I seem to elusive to you? Well, let’s get more specific. Are you ready? Here we go. Lost people, do lost things. Go figure. If a person has not been radically transformed by the power of Jesus Christ they will never view the world through your christian lenses. Let’s take Gay marriage as an example. There are six passages in the bible that directly mention homosexual behavior, and all of them do so negatively. It is clear that Jesus is against homosexuality but, I am convinced that Jesus would have cheeseburger with any gay or lesbian human being according to Luke 5:31.
So here’s the question. Is it possible for us to take the time to hear someone’s story before we start correcting there behavior? Everyone has a story. Maybe the man who drives you crazy with his feminine walk was neglected and physically abused as a child. Maybe the teenager who continually acts out is just looking for someone to love them. Maybe the lady who keeps asking you for money just lost every thing at the hands of an irresponsible man. Jesus is the model. Dine with the sinner, hear their story, point them to Jesus and let Jesus take care to the rest.
Every time a sinner goes from death to life the holy spirit begins to convict them and repentance is the overflow. Many of us are trying to take the Holy Spirits job by patrolling around with a morality badge hoping people will thank you for your efforts. Truth be told if we love people like Jesus did He will change there behavior by changing their heart.
Dear Christian, have a meal with the sinner and listen to their story and you might have a different perspective.
