FIGHTING TO KNOW JESUS IS RIDDLED WITH JOY AND DIFFICULTY, AS IS MOTHERHOOD. IF WE EMBRACE THIS, IT WILL BRING US TO A PLACE THAT ONLY GOD CAN BRING REST TO AND SUSTAIN US IN. THIS IS WHERE DEEP JOY IS FOUND.

A Real Man...

A Real Man...

Written by Claire McCann

It's before dawn Friday morning and he is up seeking God. Wanting to go about his day bringing influence and wisdom to those he encounters. He will spend his day walking through the highest joy and deepest pain with others. He will give every ounce of himself to see people come to know Jesus and to provide for his family. Working extra jobs after hours when needed to take care of us. Often on his days off he will choose to serve the city God has called him to and lead his family to do the same. The free moments of his day will slip away until there are few precious ones left. He won't use them for himself to enjoy a hobby or hang with the guys but he instead comes home. He gives those last bits of energy to wrestle, play hide and seek and snuggle with the kids. Engaging in conversation with me when he barely has words left. His head hits the pillow and sleep envelops him. And he will do it again and again until his body betrays him in old age. Giving everything daily.

Exhausted. Burdened. Faithful...

Making war against his sin and taking even the smallest temptations as possible threats to his desired end. Fighting constantly to pursue Jesus and lead his family in that direction. An engaged husband and father, leaning heavily on God and working hard to provide.

This is a man....

This is my man....

He created them male and female, and he blessed them and called them “human.” (‭Genesis‬ ‭5‬:‭2‬ NLT) As said in this scripture, God is the one who destined male persons and female persons. We don't get to choose this. We do choose what we do with it. Every male must daily choose if he will live his life for his own selfish desires or willingly lay it down to please the desires of his Maker. Being MALE and being a MAN are two very different things....

The most attractive thing is that he CHOOSES to live like this....

For God.

For us.

He doesn't have to and is even encouraged by society in the opposite direction but He knows the word of God and fights momentary pleasure to see the eternal gain in himself, his family and others.

This is sexy.

This is sacrifice.

This is MY man.

Sexy isn't a status, size, income,  weight, profession or ability. It's not the men on Magic Mike. Its not a hair cut or stylish outfit. (Though he does have these attractive attributes!)

It's a man who gives all of himself to see God grow others into their potential.

It's a husband who prays over his weary and overwhelmed wife instead of reacting in anger.

It's a father who notices the disheartened look on his son and stops everything to engage it.

It's the dad who plays princess games and dances awkwardly with his daughter to her delight.

It's bringing a quiet confidence to a fear-filled situation.

He doesn't have to bash others to feel better about himself.

His identity is in who Jesus says he is... Not in others' opinions of him.

A real man is one who lays down his life for another and chooses to keep doing that day after day.

Thank you Zach for embodying this hunk of a man to me and our family. For imperfectly, but with all your strength, sacrificing your desires to do this husband, father and Christ follower-thing well. You are my only man forever!
