FIGHTING TO KNOW JESUS IS RIDDLED WITH JOY AND DIFFICULTY, AS IS MOTHERHOOD. IF WE EMBRACE THIS, IT WILL BRING US TO A PLACE THAT ONLY GOD CAN BRING REST TO AND SUSTAIN US IN. THIS IS WHERE DEEP JOY IS FOUND.

Motherhood is green with envy.

Motherhood is green with envy.

We all "know" God is good.
It's just hard to see God being "good to us."

"Envy is resenting God's goodness in someone else's life while ignoring God's goodness in your own life."

I find it increasingly difficult to divulge details about my successes and struggles in motherhood...

It's almost like setting the bowling pin back up only to be knocked down again...

There is something in me (and I'm sure you too) that doesn't want to be less than others...

Or as CS Lewis writes, "

"Pride gets no pleasure out of having something, only out of having more of it than the next person. We say that people are proud of being rich, or clever, or good-looking, but they are not. They are proud of being richer, or cleverer, or better-looking than others. If everyone else became equally rich, or clever, or good-looking there would be nothing to be proud about."

You see if we allow this pride to drive us, then we will be consumed with being "more than" others in some aspect.

And friend...

this doesn't satisfy...

Though for a moment it seems as if our thirst has been quenched...

...it leaves us starving for substance and empty inside.

It leaves us ignoring Gods goodness to us...

And resenting Gods goodness to others....

...it leaves us ENVIOUS.

Of course, the Enemy of our souls is thrilled to have us stuck in a perpetual cycle of chasing what does not satisfy...

We then miss out on the beauty of that One which fully satisfies...

And the precious souls we have been entrusted to influence.

We must learn to search for what God says of us and let that be the resounding voice in our head.

So when another mom speaks of how they breastfed for 3 years and you feel discouraged because you couldn't...

Or how their child is thriving in 2nd grade while yours is struggling...

Or how they are back to their pre-baby weight while you don't even remember what yours was...

This comparison does not name you.

You can kill envy by celebrating God's goodness to you NOW...

And celebrating God's goodness to your momma friends...

Without feeling threatened.

There is no ranking system in God's eyes and He will call us each to fulfill His will in very different ways, as it lines up with His Word.

May we embrace the differences without envy or comparisons...

May we celebrate all God has done for us while we champion others in their obedience to God...

May we not be silent when we feel threatened by another momma's success....

Let us be the woman and friend we need others to be to us.
