FIGHTING TO KNOW JESUS IS RIDDLED WITH JOY AND DIFFICULTY, AS IS MOTHERHOOD. IF WE EMBRACE THIS, IT WILL BRING US TO A PLACE THAT ONLY GOD CAN BRING REST TO AND SUSTAIN US IN. THIS IS WHERE DEEP JOY IS FOUND.

The MESS

The MESS

I LOVE the feeling when my house is spotless.

It is therapudic for me even

maybe.

With 5 little kids it doesn't happen often and that feeling is sure to be gone in 5 minutes (when a child spills juice all over the floor)

but, man, do I love it while it lasts!

I've noticed I equally like the feeling of my day being spotless...

Like, knowing that I've walked in joy...

not really having to STRUGGLE to find it.

Or enjoying the inconveniences that inevitably come along with motherhood, instead of letting them frustrate me.

You know that "clean" feeling?

When you don't feel like your A MESS?!

I love the feeling of "clean" that comes from my own effort...

I know you've felt that accomplished feeling when you've spring cleaned your entire home or when you mowed the grass and you just feel awesome about being on top of things...

When you manage the sin in your soul by tightening those boot straps instead of leaning into the One who created the boots...

When you turn to your illusion of "control" as the "help" of the day instead of the God who actually controls the cosmos....

Why do we dislike "the mess" inside of us that comes everyday?

Just as the juice and crumbs that come into our clean homes as we live out our normal lives?

Why do we turn to controlling the food and toy area, zapping all the fun out of our family, as we try to prevent yet another spill...

Or better yet, why do we turn to controlling how we appear to God and others, as if He is blinded to the matters of our heart or will be disappointed if He sees "the mess" that we truly are...

Why can't we embrace "the mess"....

We so often base our confidence off of comparison with others instead of what God says of us...

We desperately want that clean feeling again but are blind to the reality that Jesus offers it to you at a level that goes beyond your spring cleaning abilities.

He doesn't expect perfection from your life but He actually delights in the person you are.... Right now.

IN THE MESS...

The God of the universe delights in you...

This truth, if fully recieved, will propell our hearts and homes to find joy in the here and now.

Reminding us that the clean feeling isn't really from our "doing" at all, but from a deep "knowing" of God that brings freedom to parts in us that struggle and have juice stained carpet and crumbs.

The mess that comes from normal life doesn't have to be hidden from God or controlled by you....

He will clean us up and train us all how to manage meal and play time without it becoming a disaster.

This is called sanctification.

And it will be lifelong.

May we be confident in the delight of God in the daily mess of our homes and our souls.

May we not be bothered by it or allow it to rob our joy.

May our mess instead propell us to Jesus so he can daily maintain our soul...

Just as we daily maintain the crumbs, juice and everything else.

You could have done more... You should have been better...

You could have done more... You should have been better...
