FIGHTING TO KNOW JESUS IS RIDDLED WITH JOY AND DIFFICULTY, AS IS MOTHERHOOD. IF WE EMBRACE THIS, IT WILL BRING US TO A PLACE THAT ONLY GOD CAN BRING REST TO AND SUSTAIN US IN. THIS IS WHERE DEEP JOY IS FOUND.

Body image struggles...

Body image struggles...

I've always wanted to be tall...

And thin...

I want to learn to love the "me" right now...

The "me" that is big and pregnant.

That has stretch marks from having 6 babies.

That has had accumulating baby weight, cellulite and hormonal craziness from 7 pregnancies.

That has an athletic build instead of the tall and slender build I always longed for...

I want to love the "me" right now.

Because I will never be content if my satisfaction is set on the "past me" or on the "future me"...

Man isn't this the place our joy is completely robbed!?

In believing the lie that our joy is connected to some better, future version of us...

A version of ourselves where we work out more, weigh less, have a tan and are perfectly toned etc...

Or a version from 10 years ago that brings lamenting from the damage of age and children or guilt from years of indiscipline and overindulgence...

I'm on a journey to finally love the current me right now... and I'd like to see you love the current you now too.

What does loving ourselves look like and how do we get there?

Honestly... I'm not entirely certain but I do know a few things to start...

  1. We cannot believe everything we think.
  2. We cannot dwell on negatives about ourselves and expect positive results.
  3. We must see that we are worth putting time, energy and attention into taking care of ourselves.

Now, if we can be aware of the negative thoughts we think about ourselves and re-align ourselves to Gods truth...

If we can catch ourselves when we go into dwelling on the list of things we wish were different about our body...

If we can notice when we begin fantasizing about what it would be like for us to be at our "ideal"...

If we can see making healthy choices (such as eating healthier and moving more)...

AS A GIFT TO OURSELVES.

Because we love who we are...

Not because we are punishing or restricting ourselves...

If we see the gift God has given us in our body functioning at its capacity right now and celebrate that by breaking the limitations we set on ourselves.

If we see that we are worth carving out a little "me time" a few days a week to steward well the body God entrusted to us.

If we made the same one, small change everyday that is in a healthy direction... until that becomes our new normal and we can give energy to adding something else.

Just imagine what a difference that would make.

May we do our best to begin thinking this way and giving ourselves grace when we notice we are off track.

I certainly get off track often and getting back on track to healthy thinking just may be the biggest battle of all.

"Wishing you were different and fantasizing about it always leads to insecurity. Insecurity and discontentment lead to jealousy. Jealousy leads to coveting and then gossip, slander and strife."  -Matt Chandler
