What do we do when it feels like God is late?
And not just like a fashionably late that can be cute...
But a tardiness that leaves us desperate and barely able to function...
uncertain of His goodness.
I started running a few years ago (basically, as an excuse to get out of the house alone).
It has slowly trickled into a love of running and setting ambitious (for me) goals.
One thing running a marathon has taught me is that life is oftentimes more “mental” than it is physical.
A marathon is 26.2 miles.
My longest training run in preparation for this marathon was 14ish miles.
By no chance...THIS mile, mile 14, was the very mile I struggled in as I ran the race.
Out of 26.2 miles... mile 14 was the hardest and made me want to throw in the towel.
I was facing my unknowns head on...
going farther than I had ever gone...
And in the moment it was farther than I thought I could go.
Exactly the same feeling that comes when life brings uncertainty.
As we have waited for God’s provision in certain areas... it has required faith.
More faith than I currently had and certainly more faith than I thought I could ever have. We have seen our needs being met in the craziness ways as we leaned into Him in the uncertainty of how we would get our necessities taken care of.
One thing I know is He is never early.
He is always on time... which FEELS like He is always LATE!
Oh how our time schedule doesn’t line up with His!
We would never push past mile 14 if it did. We would never find the strength to press through the moments we THOUGHT we had faith; to actually KEEP the faith.
One thing I’m certain of is that God develops us through uncertainty.
He keeps us close through uncertainty.
He tells us of our worth and value in uncertain times.
We have only the responsibility of fighting to stay near Him...
Fighting to keep His perspective instead of the millions of ways we could see that He hasn’t come through.
As we continue leaning on him, we find that being CLOSER TO HIM, is worth the pain of uncertainty.
We all want a “God story” but few of us want the “God process”.
His PROCESS of growth is difficulty...
And yes, uncertainty.
He fashions growth in us precisely in these moments...
If we lean into Him instead of run, numb or deny.
May your uncertain moments propel you to delve into the incredible expanse of His wonder.
May these trying times be the exact thing that develops growth and faith in you.
May this mike 14 show you that by His strength, you are capable of achieving much more and going much farther than you are aware.
May you remember that if you are connected to Him in your challenging times... your still moving forward.
And that’s exactly how you get to the finish line.
